I am happy as well as sad: Nur
Terming the recent Ducsu elections “tainted and questionable”, its Vice President Nurul Haque Nur today said he assumed office only to continue to place the demand for reelection before the Dhaka University authorities.
In an exclusive interview after the first executive meeting of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu), Nur said, “Had the elections been held in a manner acceptable to all, we would have been happy. But that didn’t happen.”
“I expressed solidarity with the students who are pressing for reelection. The nation didn’t expect such a tainted election from the DU authorities after a wait of over 28 years,” he said.
Pointing to those who are raising question on his taking charge as VP, Nur said, “I have assumed office to place the issue to the university syndicate and other platforms. I will inform the authorities of the irregularities in the elections.”
He further said during the meeting of the first executive committee of the Ducsu, he raised his voice against the existing malpractices including the ‘gono-room, guest-room’ cultures.
He demanded that the seat allotment to the hall dormitories must be based on merit not for any political affiliation.
“I am happy as well as saddened as because when I am sitting on the chair, my brothers and sisters are staging demonstrations demanding reelection,” he told the newspaper.
