Take step for int’l recognition for March 25 genocide: Nirmul Committee
Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee today urged the government to take an effective initiative for international recognition to the night of March 25 as “International Black Night of Genocide”.
“We are calling upon the government specially the Liberation War affairs and Foreign Ministry to take an immediate effective initiative for the recognition,” Muntasir Mamun, vice president of the committee, made the demand this evening.
Expressing frustration over the government’s inaction in this regard, he said, “The government did not make any formal call for the recognition to our different friend countries including India, Russia and East Europe.”
The government should come up with a step in this regard to foil evil attempts of the perpetrators who committed Genocide and ensure justice to the victims of genocide.
“As we are preparing to celebrate the birth centennial of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, we are stating that we will remain active to free the society and the country from the stigma of fundamentalism and communalism,” he said.
Earlier, the pro-liberation activists, dignitaries and cultural personalities held a candle light vigil commemorating the martyrs of the March 25 holocaust at the Central Shaheed Minar premises in Dhaka.
A torch-wielding procession was brought out from the Shaheed Minar that ended in front of the mass grave at Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University. They stood in solemn silence for a minute and prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed souls.
In an announcement, Mamun said, “Our main demand on the occasion of the National Genocide Day, the politics of killing people in the name of religion will have to be stopped.”
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, former information minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, Poet Hasan Fakri, among others, were present.
