Charukala Utshab 2019 Gazipur begins today
A press conference was held yesterday in this regard at the Department of Graphic Design, Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka, where convener Professor Mohammad Eunus, Curator Harun-ar-Rashid Tutul and one of the co-curators Zahangir Alom briefed about the arrangement of the festival to the journalists.
The purpose of arranging the event is to create a healthy and beautiful Bangladesh for the present and forthcoming generations, from cities to the remote countryside of Bangladesh. It aims to inspire artists to indulge in art-making in a quiet place beyond the chaotic city life, and in a natural environment adorned with greenery. Many prominent and promising artists of the country are participating in the festival to be held at Bhawal Mirzapur Haji Jamir Uddin School and College, Gazipur.
The outcomes of the art camp will be showcased in an exhibition from March 30 to April 2. The festival also features two other exhibitions, several cultural programmes and a traditional folk art and craft fair. With the association and help from the participating artists, over two hundred students from various schools of Gazipur will also have the opportunity to create different works in the festival. Revolving around the arrangement, the festival hopes to turn a true artistic get-together for the participating artists of four generations, students and the local inhabitants.
The theme for this year's festival is 'Beautiful Environment, Artistic Life'. Several contemporary artists will independently create works on environmental concerns. Renowned artist Professor Mohammad Eunus is the convener of the festival while multi-award winning artist Harun-ar-Rashid Tutul, also an Assistant Professor at the Department of Graphic Design, Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka, is the curator of the art festival.
The festival is solely designed to practise arts, promote artists and to showcase Bangladesh's art, craft and cultural heritage on a grand scale.
