Tollywood celebrities' growing interest in politics

Celebrities, including the likes of Moon Moon Sen, Nusrat Jahan, Mimi Chakraborty, and Prasun Banerjee, among others, will be contesting for Lok Sabha election 2019 as candidates of Trinamool Congress. On the other hand, singer Babul Supriyo, and actor Locket Chatterjee will be contesting for the election as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates. Recently, fashion designer Agnimitra Paul joined BJP in Kolkata. According to different sources, she could be made a BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha polls.

Agnimitra Paul believes that politics is an essential platform to serve the society, which is why more celebrities are taking interest in it. Dilip Ghosh, current president of the West Bengal unit of the BJP, says “It is every citizen's right to exercise their political freedom. Celebrities are no different.”

Nusrat Jahan and Mimi Chakraborty consider Mamta Banarjee as their idol. These actors believe that they can utilise their popularity to serve the people of their country as politicians.
