Gun attack on UP chairman car in B’baria, VDP member killed
A member of Village Defence Party (VDP) was shot dead in Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria district today.
Bhanu Lal Chandra, 35, hailing from Talshahar village, was shot by unknown miscreants around 9:30am on Talshahar-Bahadurpur regional road, Officer-in-charge of Ashuganj Police Station Masud Alam.
"Unknown miscreants shot him when he was travelling in the jeep of Talshahar UP chairman Abu Shama. He died on the spot”, the police official said.
Abu Shama’s son Amir Hossain told The Daily Star in the morning that Bhanu Lal was accompanying the driver to bring fuel from Ashuganj in his father's Jeep.
Some unknown people started firing indiscriminately targeting the jeep when the car was crossing Talshahar-Bahadurpur regional road towards Ashuganj.
The miscreants then fled from the scene, the son said.
Bhanu Lal was shot in his head and died on the spot, he added.
He also said, "Some of the ruling party leaders threatened my father after the December 30 JS polls even though my father is also an active leader of Awami League.”
The rival group shot fires thinking Abu Shama was inside the car, Amir Hossain claimed.
OC Masud Alam said the incident is being considered with utmost importance and no one involved with the killing would be spared.
The body of the victim was sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, OC added.
