The officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonagazi Model Police Station in Feni has been withdrawn over the arson attack on a madrasa student four days ago.

Md Moyazzem Hosen was withdrawn from his post, our staff correspondent reports today quoting Md Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general (AIG) of police.

Moreover, the case has been handed over to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the AIG said.

Md Moyazzem has been withdrawn after victim’s family members alleged that they are not getting proper cooperation from him, said an official from Police Headquarters seeking anonymity.

Three accused remanded

A Feni court today placed three people on remand including the main suspect of the case.

Among the three accused, Maulana Siraj Ud Doula, principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa and also the main suspect in the case, was placed on a seven-day remand whereas the two others —Afsar Uddin, lecturer of English department of the madrasa and Alim examinee Ariful Islam -- were placed on five-day remand each, reports our Feni correspondent.

Feni Senior Judicial Magistrate Saraf Uddin Ahmed passed the order after Kamal Hossain, a sub-inspector of Sonagazi Police Station and also investigation officer of the case, produced the three accused before the court with a remand prayer.

Police had arrested Afsar and Arif in connection with the case on Monday.

The madrasa student was set on fire on April 6 allegedly for refusing to withdraw a case filed against Maulana Siraj Ud Doula, principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa for sexually harassing her late last month.

The student is battling for her life at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
