Sylhet Gas Fields Ltd MD found dead

The managing director of Sylhet Gas Fields Ltd (SGFL) was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his residential quarters in Sylhet's Jaintiapur upazila yesterday.

Engineer Md Lutfar Rahman, 55, of Mymensingh, joined the SGFL on April 8 last year and used to live in the quarters at Haripur alone as his family lives in Dhaka.

Md Shah Alam, deputy director of SGFL, said Lutfar went to the guesthouse of the gas fields to see off two officials, who went to visit the gas fields from Dhaka, in the morning. He returned to his quarters around 7:00am.

He said Lutfar used to come to office at 9:00am every day. Around 9:30am yesterday, they saw that he did not reach office and contacted his quarters. The caretaker said he might be resting in his room as he returned after seeing off his colleagues.

Shah Alam added that they called the caretaker again around 10:30am and he told them that Lutfar was not responding from his bedroom.

He said they then rushed to the quarters and informed police, who brought down the hanging body of Lutfar from the ceiling fan.

Mahbubul Alam, additional superintendent of Sylhet police, said Lutfar might have taken his own life. They would tell the cause of his death after getting the autopsy report, he said.

He added that they got a suicide note.

In the note, Lutfar neither mentions any reason for his “suicide” nor holds anybody responsible for his death, the official added.
