Bogura BNP leader hacked to death
A local BNP leader was stabbed to death allegedly by a group of unidentified miscreants in Upashahar area of Bogura town on Sunday night.
The dead -- Mahbub Alam Shahin, 55 -- was the general secretary of the district BNP and a resident of Jhopgari area in the town, said SM Badiuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Bogura Sadar Police Station.
The victim was being accompanied by two of his associates, Bappi and Alimuddin, when the attack took place at Tinghatar Mor around 10:30pm, said police.
Quoting Alimuddin, Additional Superintendent of Police Sonaton Chakraborty said some six to seven assailants attacked Mahbub and stabbed him in the chest and leg, leaving him critically injured.
They left the scene immediately after the attack, Sonatan said, adding that Mahbub was rushed to the nearby Mohammad Ali Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Mahbub's wife Aktar Jahan Silpi told The Daily Star that her husband was the owner of two buses and had been in a feud with a faction of the bus owners' association in the district.
She alleged that the members of that faction had killed her husband.
No case was filed till filing of this report around 9:00pm yesterday.
Saiful Islam, president of Bogura unit BNP said, “Mahbub was a BNP leader, a lawyer and a transport businessman. Whoever is the killer, we want justice.”
Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan, superintendent of police, said, “We have already formed a seven-member team, led by an additional superintendent of police, to find the attackers.”
Meanwhile, Bogura district BNP yesterday announced a five-day programme protesting the murder and demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.
