Metro Tales
Public transportation happens to be one of those things I’m somewhat of a ‘nerd’ about the way some people love learning about the various flavours of coffee or loan interest repayment schemes. The on-going construction of the Dhaka Metro Rail has added fuel to the fire that is manoeuvring around Dhaka, but it acts as a beacon of hope in a city where most news is met with valid cynicism. Recent outcries for road safety awareness mean that we as citizens have a non-reactionary solution to hope for.
In the 90s, Medellin, Colombia was the most dangerous city in the world. But today, Medellin is considered a ‘model city’ and safer than most cities in the US. One of the things that helped the city was a major overhaul of its public transportation system. My hope is that the Dhaka Metro Rail can do the same for us.
