Rajshahi transport strike called off
The indefinite transport strike enforced by Rajshahi District Motor Workers’ Union in the district from early yesterday was called off last night.
Mahtab Hossain, general secretary of the body, made the announcement saying the authority assured them of meeting their demand, our Rajshahi correspondent reports.
The union had been against plying of illegal vehicles on highways and had been threatening the government with agitation if those vehicles are not stopped.
After enforcing the strike yesterday, the union had two meetings last night – one with Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury and the other with its executive body.
“We have withdrawn the strike as the administration has assured us of meeting our demands,” Mahtab, secretary of the union, told The Daily Star.
