7th-grader raped in Jhenidah
A rural medical practitioner has allegedly raped a seventh-grader schoolgirl after making her unconscious with sedatives in Jhenidah’s Maheshpur upazila.
Saiful Islam, the medical practitioner, who hails from Nepa union in the upazila, was arrested yesterday in connection with the incident, Maheshpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rashidul Alam told our local correspondent.
The victim’s mother said her husband took their daughter to Saiful, who practices at Naj Pharmacy at Sezia bazar, after she fell ill on Saturday night. After checking up her health, Saiful asked the victim’s father to send her to his chamber again on Sunday for further checkup, she said.
As the victim revisited the chamber around 10:00am on Sunday, Saiful raped the girl after pushing her a sedative injection and giving her a pill to ingest, the victim’s mother said.
“When she started bleeding profusely, he (Saiful) fled the scene,” she said.
Later, locals rescued the girl and admitted her to Jibannagar Upazila Health complex. As her condition was worsening, the girl was shifted to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, according to the victim’s mother.
Meanwhile, police arrested the accused after the victim’s father filed a rape case with the police station accusing Saiful yesterday. Later, the accused was sent to jail after he was produced before a Jhenidah court.
