2 ‘drug traders’ killed in Dhaka, Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfights’
Two suspected drug traders were killed in separate “gunfights” with law enforcers in Dhaka and Cox's Bazar early today.
In Dhaka, a team of Rapid Action Battalion-1 conducted a drive at Diabari under Turag Police Station around 2:00 am based on a tip off, our staff correspondent reports quoting Rab-1 Assistant Director Md Kamruzzaman.
Sensing presence of law enforcers, they opened fire forcing Rab members to retaliate. Later the bullet-hit body of one of the drug traders were found at the spot, claimed the Rab official while talking to The Daily Star.
The deceased was identified as Alam alias Gaza Alam, 45. There are around 17 drug related cases filed against him with different police stations, the Rab official said.
Two Rab members were also injured in the incident, Kamruzzaman added.
A huge amount of hemp, a foreign-made pistol and ammunition were recovered from the spot.
In Cox's Bazar, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police near Marine Drive road in Teknaf upazila early today, UNB said.
The deceased was identified as Dil Mohammad, 36, son of Makbul Ahmed of Godarbhil village in the upazila.
Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said police arrested Dil Mohammad from the upazila yesterday afternoon.
Later, a team of police along with Dil Mohammad conducted a drive at an abandoned fish enclosure in the area to recover firearms and Yaba.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers Dil Mohammad's associated opened fire on police and tried to snatch away Dil Mohammad, forcing them to fire back.
At one stage, Dil Mohammad caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.
