Right time for Liton and Soumya to step up: Tamim
Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal said that his World Cup squad mates Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar had a lot of chances to prove themselves and now they need to step up and show the world their true potential on a big stage like the World Cup, scheduled to begin from May 30 in England.
Soumya became the first Bangladeshi to score a double hundred in List A cricket when he scored an unbeaten 208 off 153 balls during their title-deciding tie against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and helped his team win the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) title on April 23.
With the World Cup in sight, Tamim thought that it was the right time for both Liton and Soumya -- his potential opening partners in the big event -- to show some character.
"When you have a regular opening partner, we both get to know about our games well. Sometimes it happens that my timing is not right or I am striking the balls but only to the fielders. Then he needs to take the extra chances.
"But if somebody is not settled, it is very unfair to go and tell him 'go on, take some chances'. Because they also need to go through a process. However, I am certain that Liton and Soumya have gotten enough chances. I am sure this is the right time to show the world how good they are," said Tamim to reporters in Mirpur on Wednesday.
