Depression over Indian Ocean
The low over equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining South Bay intensified into a depression over the same area since yesterday noon.
However, the Met office said they were not yet certain if the depression will turn into a cyclone.
“We still cannot say for sure whether it’s going to be a cyclone as it is still around 2,100km from maritime ports of the country,” said Ashraful Alam, a metrologist at Dhaka Met office.
The Met office asked all maritime ports to show distant cautionary signal number 1 until further notice. All trawlers and finishing boats have been asked not to stay at mid-sea till further notice.
According to the Met office, rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at several places over Khulna and Dhaka divisions in the next two days.
Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, according to the Met office.
