HC defers passing order on Fakhrul's bail petition
The High Court yesterday deferred until November 22 the date for delivering its verdict on bail petitions filed by BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three arson and vandalism cases.
The HC set the date after holding hearing on rules over granting bail to the BNP leader.
The HC on June 21 issued three rules on the government to explain why the BNP leader will not get regular bail in the cases and granted ad interim bail to Fakhrul till the rules were disposed.
However, on November 2, the Supreme Court ordered Fakhrul to surrender before a lower court and asked the HC to hear and dispose of the rules in two weeks.
He surrendered before a Dhaka court the following day and was sent to jail.
On November 11, the HC fixed yesterday to pass verdict on the rules.
The cases accuse Fakhrul and other party leaders and activists of vandalising and torching vehicles in the capital on January 4, 5 and 6.
