ISD students stage ‘Into The Wardrobe’
Students of International School, Dhaka, with support from their teachers and administration, staged 'Into the Wardrobe', a reprise of 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, recently at the school.
ISD, being one of the very few schools in Bangladesh, offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Curriculum, focuses on nurturing the creativity and individuality of all their students. This production was one of the many initiatives they have taken to preserve the essence of the curriculum. Sara Loftstrom, Admissions Director of ISD asserted, "We do different productions all year around, be it on music, theatre, visual arts or other areas. It is a part of what we offer in an IB Curriculum. This production was the final show of Into the Wardrobe which our students worked on for several months. Our next production will be in the fall, around the end of November or early December."
The drama was presented by the Performing & Visual Arts Department of ISD and was scripted by the drama teachers, Stacy Ohrt-Billingslea and Carla St. Louis. They were in charge of condensing the entire adaptation into less than an hour, instruct the students and make them rehearse after school for the final show. "I'm really fortunate to work with a bunch of talented teachers and artistes here at ISD," said Stacy, who is also the creative director of the school. "The kids have worked incredibly hard to put up this production. They maintained their composure and professionalism through all the hurdles. We are very proud of them."
The use of the brilliantly detailed props, used on the stage was a collective effort by all the students, teachers, and even their spouses. The creative team of the production did a wonderful job with the sound effects and background score. The hard work of the cast and crew shone through every aspect of the production.
