Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was slapped today by a man during a roadshow as part of campaigning in Moti Nagar locality of West Delhi in New Delhi parliamentary constituency.

Kejriwal, chief of Aam Aadmi Party, was atop an open jeep when a 33-year-old man wearing a red T-shirt jumped onto the vehicle and slapped the Chief Minister, a senior police official said.

Delhi Police said the man has been taken into the custody and an investigation into the matter is underway, our New Delhi correspondent reports.

DCP (West) Monika Bhardwaj said the man has been identified as Suresh who deals in auto spare parts in Kailash Park locality.

The Indian capital is at present in the thick of electioneering for seven parliamentary constituencies for which there is a triangular contest between the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the AAP.

The BJP had swept all the seven seats in the previous elections five years ago.

The former chief minister of New Delhi has been attacked a number of times in the past.
