Rangpur woman burnt by ‘husband' dies
A housewife succumbed to her injuries today, three days after she was set on fire allegedly by her husband in Rangpur.
Aynunnahar Tonni, 21, from Zadabpur village in Mithapukur upazila of the district, lost her battle for life around 10:00am while receiving treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH), our Dinajpur correspondent reports quoting Sohel Rana, a cousin of the victim.
Police sent her body to RMCH morgue for autopsy, Zafar Ali Biswas Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mithapukur Police Station told the correspondent.
The victim's husband Wahedul Islam is behind the bars since May 2, the day Tonni was set on fire, the OC said adding that they are still investigating the incident.
WHY TONNI WAS SET ON FIRE?
According to the victim's mother-in-law Rawshan Ara, Tonni beat up her three-year-old son after getting annoyed at the boy’s nagging on May 2.
Wahedul protested the beating and forced her out of the house and he went for work. Around 11:00am, when he returned home and found her still there, he flew into a rage and doused her with a container of diesel before setting her alight.
Hearing screams, neighbours rushed to the scene and took her to Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex.
She was referred to RMCH as she suffered 100 per cent burns and was in critical condition, Dr Ruposhree Pal of the burn unit of RMCH earlier told this newspaper.
Later, she was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but her family decided not to shift her as they could not afford the cost.
