Journalists will hold a sit-in programme across the country on May 15 to put pressure on the government for implementing their four-point demand including issuance of gazette notification for the ninth wage board before Eid-ul-Fitr.

Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists together with other journalists’ forums will arrange the sit-in all across the country, Mollah Jalal, president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ) said during a rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club.

WHAT ARE THEIR KEY DEMANDS?

-- Issuance of gazette notification for the ninth wage board

--Halting the process of unethical layoff of media workers

--Disbursement of regular salary

--Immediate enactment of media workers’ law in the parliament

The speakers today demanded that the media workers, who have been sacked recently, be cleared off all their dues as per the rules of the current wage board and that they are also raising voice against the process of laying off of media workers.

Continuous demonstration will be enforced if the demands are not met, Mollah Jalal said.
