22 Rohingyas rescued from human traffickers

Police have rescued 22 Rohingyas from human traffickers in Teknaf and Maheshkhali of Cox's Bazar.

These Rohingyas were being sent off towards Malaysia by sea yesterday, said Md Anwar Hossain, inspector of Baharchhara police box of Teknaf Police Station.

Police conducted separate operations following information that a human trafficking gang gathered some Rohingya refugees to send them to Malaysia by sea at 10:00pm yesterday, the official added.

Six Rohinya women and two men were rescued from Baharchhara Deilpara area and 14 others were rescued from Kalarmar Chhora area of Moheshkhali at the same time.

Earlier, 12 Rohingyas including two minors were rescued from Maheshkhali Panirchhara area on Saturday night.

Police also arrested an alleged trafficker from there. Accused Kabir Ahmed was produced before a court and sent to jail.

Abu Morshed Chowdhury, co-chairman of NGO-Civil Society Forum, said that the human trafficking gangs are active as the sea stays calm in this season.
