1,930 metres of Padma Bridge now visible as 13th span installed

The 13th span of Bangladesh’s biggest infrastructure project Padma Bridge was installed today at Maowa, making 1,950 metres of the bridge visible.

The 3,140-ton and 150 metres span was installed on the 14th and 15th pillars around 10:25am, our Munshiganj correspondent reports after the installation.

Thirteen among total 23 spans at Maowa construction yard have been installed so far, Deputy Assistant Engineer of Padma Bridge project Humayun Kabir told The Daily Star.

The construction work of the long-cherished Padma Bridge started in December, 2015 and the first span was installed on September 30, 2017.

The length of the steel structure double-deck Padma bridge is 6.15 kilometres. The trains will run through the lower deck while the road will be on the upper level of the bridge.

When the construction of the Padma bridge is completed, the capital will be directly connected with 21 southern districts through road and railways.
