Mother ‘kills herself, two children’ in Jashore

A mother allegedly took her own life after poisoning her two children to death in Jashore's Sharsha upazilla early today, family members claimed.

Hamida Khatun, 35, wife of tea vendor Ibrahim, took insecticide and also gave some to her two children -- Sharifa Khatun, 11, and Sohan Hosen, 4, -- at their Chalitabaria Deegha village house around 12:00am, the victim’s family said.

She killed herself and her two children after having a quarrel with Ibrahim over the inability to buy the children new clothes for Eid, our Benapole correspondent reports quoting the relatives and neighbours.  

Whether Hamida’s death was suicide or murder will be known only after postmortem, said Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sharsha Police Station.

“We have already arrested three persons in this regard,” the OC added.
