A circular bus service on Uttara- Sonargaon Janapad and Airport-Sector No.12 routes was inaugurated today with an aim to ensure hassle-free movement of the commuters and to ease traffic congestion in Dhaka.

A total of 10 air-conditioned BRTC buses will ply the roads, said a press release.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) jointly took the initiative

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam chaired the inaugural programme at Rabindra Sarani in the area while Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon was present as the chief guest.

Addressing the programme, Mayor Sayeed Khokon said that public transport and traffic jam in the capital are the main problems. “We, the two mayors, are working relentlessly in line with the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to improve the living standard of the city dwellers,” he said.

He also called upon the city dwellers to be aware to bring back discipline on the Dhaka streets.

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said there is no alternative to healthily public transport for the capital Dhaka.

Claiming that the bus service is a pleasant news for the people living in the Uttara area, he said he would take initiatives to remove all illegal vehicles (like Laguna) from the seven roads in the area to bring back discipline on the streets.
