Police Headquarters today directed all units of Bangladesh Police to take cautionary measures following the bomb blast at Dhaka’s Malibagh intersection yesterday.

All concerned units of Bangladesh Police have been issued directives in this regard, read a press release signed by Md Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general of police (media and PR).

The bomb attack is currently being investigated, it said adding, “The matter of Islamic State’s claim of responsibility (for the blast) has come to sight. But no connection between IS and the attack has been ascertained yet.”

Any further update in this connection will be notified later, the release added.

A bomb went off near a police pickup in the capital’s Malibagh intersection last night that injured two people, including a female police officer.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Rasheda Akhter Babli, 28, was near the vehicle when the bomb exploded around 8:50pm, Sergeant Enamul of the traffic police department (East division) told The Daily Star. He said she suffered injuries to her left leg.

The explosion also caused head injuries to rickshaw puller Lal Miah, 50, the police official said. Both were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

The rear of the vehicle was damaged and it caught fire in the explosion.
