Coloured beef seized at Dhaka New Market
A mobile court conducted by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today seized around two maunds of colored beef from New Market area of Dhaka.
It is suspected that the colour, they used to make stale beef appear fresh, is originally used in textile, Sarwoer Alam, executive magistrate of Rab, who led the drive, told The Daily Star.
Although the real nature of the colour could be officially ascertained after lab tests, he said.
The mobile court also handed six months of jail term to the owner of the beef store in this regard.
Meanwhile, the court sent two owners of another store to jail for mixing stale beef with fresh supply.
The stores were also fined a total of Tk 40,000 in this connection.
The seized beef was later destroyed by the law enforcers.
