The Art of Jumping to Conclusions

South Asians are a peculiar bunch. We live with our set-in-stone values and refuse to accept that we may be wrong at times. We are experts at instantly coming to our own conclusions about a topic we hardly know or a person we barely met.

However, not all conclusion-jumpers are the same as the others. Some can end up with pleasant conclusions too. Thus, I will try to break down the conclusion jumpers into categories for you. Just a reminder, try NOT to be like these people in the future:

The Lynchers

These people will instantly come up with conclusions like ‘He/she must be doing this for attention’ and continue to berate the individual concerned to oblivion, even if they have no idea about what, who or the condition of the ‘who’ they are talking about. Especially if the individual is a girl. Don’t do that.

The Indecisive

This category of people will have no clue what to come up with themselves. They come in two sub-categories. One, they will listen to whatever they are told by others and come up with a conclusion without having any conviction of their own. And two, they will keep changing their conclusive answers over and over again, not being able to come up with a final conclusion to the issue at hand.

The Sympathisers

These people will constantly stick to their guns about everyone having a good reason for anything they would have done, no matter how heinous that task would be. Though this category of people is extremely rare, this is still an extreme.

The Followers

The people falling into this category will only come up to conclusions when the events occurring can only be related to examples leading up to their lives. They will vehemently stick to their ‘ideal examples’ of how something should be done and come up with conclusions accordingly. This isn’t exactly a bad thing at most times. But keeping that standard as the ‘benchmark’ may not be the best idea.

The Lazy

People in this category take way too long to come to a proper conclusion. Though taking time to come to a conclusive decision is good, they are often too late.

The Confused

Finally, this group of people are either the ones that choose not to come to a conclusion, or simply choose to stick to the “ignorance is bliss” ideology. They are content with the fact that a rigid conclusion is not necessary. They are confident that making an immovable decision and always acting upon it leaves your views too narrow.

So there you have it. A list of the categories of people that jump into conclusions. But bear in mind, this is just an opinion. Just remember that if you live and let live, the world can be a better place. Always remember to not be a jerk.
