‘Drug dealer’ killed in Cumilla ‘gunfight’
A “drug peddler” was killed in a “shootout" with police in Cumilla Sadar (south) upazila early today.
Police identified the deceased as Bappy alias Razib,26, son of Late Delowar Hossain Delo of Uttar Rampur in the upazila, our Cumilla correspondent reports quoting police.
When police were conducting an anti-narcotic drive in Uttar Bijoypur area around 2:30am, Bappy and his cohorts opened fire targeting the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back, said Komol Krishno Dhor, inspector (investigation) of Cumilla Sadar South Police Station.
At one stage, criminals managed to flee the scene. Later, police found the bullet-hit body of Bappy and rushed him to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead.
Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of the police station, said Bappi was a listed drug dealer and accused in 11 drug cases filed with Sadar South Police Station.
Police seized two sharp weapons and 1,200 Yaba pills from the spot.
