Citizens’ Info: DMP starts going door to door

Dhaka Metropolitan Police yesterday announced that it would knock every door in the capital to update citizens’ information as it feels that there are threats of terror and militant attacks.

DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia made the announcement at a press briefing in the DMP Media Centre while inaugurating “Citizen Information Collection Week” that will continue until June 21.

“We have started to collect information again through the ‘Citizen Information Collection Week’ as we feel that there are threats of militant and terror attacks,” said the DMP commissioner.

Police are trying to include all the updated information in its Citizen Information Management System (CIMS), he said, adding the aim of doing it was to get access to all necessary information whenever necessary.

The DMP formally launched the CIMS after the deadly militant attack on Holey Artisan café in 2016.

Seeking cooperation from the city dwellers, Asaduzzaman Mia said, “If we can complete this task without a hitch, not only terrorism and militancy, but also crimes like murder and robbery will go down in Dhaka.”

The DMP also assured that the personal information of the citizens would be protected in the police database and no one was victimised for it.
