‘Crimes against women increasing due to culture of impunity’
Eminent economist and scholar Dr Akbar Ali Khan today said repression against women is taking place unabatedly due to the existing the culture of impunity.
Dr Khan came up with the remark while speaking as the chief guest at a Parliamentary Debate competition on Feni madrasa student Nusrat titled ‘Brave Nusrat, you are logic, you are protest.’

Dr Akbar Ali Khan, also former adviser to a caretaker government, alleged that police usually delay in taking First Information Report (FIR).
“Repression against women is not decreasing due to the culture of impunity,” he said in the context of Nusrat murder.
The whole judiciary and policing system should be reformed otherwise the overall situation will not improve, he observed.
Bangladesh can share the experience of some Scandinavian countries which are less prone to such crimes, he said.
He also gave three-point recommendation on women empowerment, reform in legal and policing system and good governance.
