Banani fire: Rupayan chairman gets bail
Liakat Ali Khan alias Mukul, chairman of Rupayan Group, has secured bail in a case filed over a deadly fire that ripped through 22-storey FR Tower in the capital's Banani on March 28.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury granted bail to Liakat after the latter surrendered before it today.
His bail petition was granted on the ground that he is over sixty years of age and ill, our court correspondent reports.
Moreover, the charges brought against him are bailable, the court observed.
He will remain on bail until police submit its report.
The devastating fire at the tower killed 26 people and left some 70 injured on March 28.
On March 31, Milton Dutt, a sub-inspector and also the in-charge of Banani Police outpost, filed the case against land owner SMHI Faruque, Mukul, chairman of Rupayan Group, the builder company, and Tasvirul Islam, and others who were part of the building management committee and some unknown persons.
