Ctg couple to walk gallows for murder

A court today sentenced a man and his wife to death for killing the elder brother of the man in Mirsarai upazila of Chittagong in 2005.

The convicts were identified as Nur Mohammad and his wife Rahima Begum of Patakote village in the upazila.

According to the prosecution, Nur chopped his elder brother Kalam to death with the help of Rahima at the house of his sister Salam Khatun in the same village on November 11 in 2005 following previous enmity.

When they were trying to dump the body in a pond near the house, Salma and her daughter Rozina saw it, caught them with the help of local people and handed over them to police.

Later, the victim’s brother filed a case against Nur and Rahima with Mirsarai Police Station.

On January 2 in 2006, police submitted a charge sheet against the duo to a court after investigation.

Later, the case was sent to Chittagong divisional public security tribunal from the lower court for quick disposal.

After examining seven witnesses and documents, Judge of the tribunal Syeda Hosne Ara handed down the verdict.
