Govt summons Pakistan envoy
Government summoned Pakistan envoy tomorrow to lodge formal protest as Pakistan expressed ‘anguish’ over execution of war criminals Ali Ahsan Mohammed Mojaheed and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
Pakistan High Commissioner in Bangladesh Shuja Alam has been summoned at the Foreign Ministry tomorrow afternoon, a diplomatic source told The Daily Star.
The decision to summon the Pakistan envoy was taken instantly as the Pakistan Foreign Ministry today issued a statement saying, “We have noted with deep concern and anguish the unfortunate executions... Pakistan is deeply disturbed at this development”.
“As emphasised earlier, we have also been noting the reaction of the international community on the flawed trials in Bangladesh related to events of 1971,” the Pakistan statement also reads.
Ministers and eminent citizens of Bangladesh sharply reacted to the Pakistan government’s statement and termed it as interference in the country’s internal affairs.
