Govt provided legal aid to 4 lakh poor people in 10yrs: Law minister
The government has provided legal aid to 4.3 lakh poor and destitute people in the last 10 years through the National Legal Aid and Services Organization (NLASO), Law Minister Anisul Huq said today.
He also said the legal aid will be provided to all the poor and helpless people whoever need through the NLASO.
The minister said this while presiding over 36 the meeting of the board of directors of NLASO at the conference room of the law ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat.
He said the NLASO has approved the government’s decision to amend the rules so that all the people whose annual income is under the limit of income tax can get the legal aid.
The board of directors of NLASO at the meeting today decided to the increase the fees of the panels lawyers who deal with the cases on behalf with the poor people to 30 per cent in order to enhance their spirit and standard of service.
Members of the board of NLASO directors Md Abdus Shahid, MP, Masud Uddin Chowdhury, MP, Supreme Court Registrar General Dr Md Zakir Hossain, NLASO Director Md Aminul Islam, law ministry’s joint secretaries Md Golam Sarwar and Bikash Kumar Saha attended the meeting.
