Where majesty is dismantled
While most people would associate shipbreaking/building yards with port cities, many other areas in the country are hosts to such yards where ships are dismantled or built, like the one in Keraniganj’s Aganagar. Shipbreaking is the process of disassembling an outdated vessel’s structure for the purposes of scrapping or disposal. Conducted on such yards, it involves an array of activities to get the job done -- from removing gear and equipment from aboard the ships to cutting down and recycling the ship’s entire structure. The process is a challenging one, mainly because of the structural complexities of the ships and the environmental and health hazards involved.
