Schoolgirl raped in Narayanganj

An eighth-grader has been raped allegedly by a youth in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj.

Today, the victim’s father filed a case against one Swapon Mia, 30, reports our Narayanganj correspondent quoting Shafiqul Islam, sub-inspector of Rupganj Police Station.

The youth raped the girl in Kaladari area on February 1 on the way to home from school and threatened her not to disclose the matter, the SI said.

The victim felt sick suddenly on July 5 and she was taken to a local hospital where here doctors said the girl is about six-month pregnant, according to the case statement.

The victim is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said the police official.  

Sowpon and his family members went into hiding before the day of filing case, said SI Shafiqul, adding that they are trying to arrest the alleged rapist.
