Muntassir Mamoon seeks security
Eminent historian Prof Muntassir Mamoon has filed a general diary (GD) seeking security following recent threats by militant outfits.
History professor at Dhaka University and vice president of Ekattorer Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee, the platform that has been campaigning for trials of war criminals, Mamoon filed the GD with Dhanmondi Police Station on Sunday.
“I have been threatened with death through social media platforms including Facebook. Also, my name has come up in hit-lists circulated by militants groups,” he told The Daily Star today.
In the GD, he said vested quarters were spreading propaganda against him. “I am feeling vulnerable under repeated threats from these groups.”
Contacted in this regard, Noor-a-Azam, officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station, assured he arranged adequate measures to ensure the security of the veteran historian.
Plainclothes have been deployed to watch over him, he added.
