College student dies after jumping off building

A female student of Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College in Dhaka today died after jumping off the college building this afternoon.

The deceased student was identified as Akhi Akter, 18, a first-year student of the college, Kazi Wazed Ali, officer-in-charge of Sutrapur Police Station, told The Daily Star.

She jumped from the third-floor veranda of the building while talking to two boys around 4:30pm, he said.

Quoting eyewitnesses, the OC said that the boys were hurling abusive words at the girl before she ran and jumped off the building.

The boys were taken into police custody in this connection, the official added.
