A Barguna court today rejected two petitions of Aysha Siddiqa Minni, who is now in jail in connection with the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Sirajul Islam Gazi passed the rejection order this noon after her lawyer submitted the petitions – one was filed for seeking the court’s order on better treatment of Minni and another on its permission for taking her signature for filing an application seeking withdrawal of her statement recorded by a court on July 16.

The court rejected the first petition saying that the jail authority is bound for giving treatment if she falls sick, Aslam, general secretary of Barguna District Bar Association, said.

The court rejected the other petition saying that Minni’s signature can be taken despite she remains in jail, he said.

Yesterday, the same court rejected her bail petition.

On July 19, a Barguna court recorded the statement of Minni in connection with the case filed over the murder of Rifat Sharif, who was hacked to death in broad daylight. She was sent to jail on the same day.

Minni is the key witness of the murder that took place in front of her college on June 26. Rifat Sharif, a 25-year-old internet service provider, was indiscriminately hacked by a group of youths there.

In a video footage of the incident that went viral in the social media, Minni was seen screaming and trying in vain to save her husband from the assailants.

The victim’s father filed a murder case with Barguna Sadar Police Station against 12 people on the same day.

The prime accused in the case, Nayon Bond, was killed in a “gunfight” with police on July 2.
