Writ seeks Rifat murder case to be transferred to CID or PBI
A Supreme Court lawyer today filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking its directive on the government to transfer Barguna’s Rifat Sharif murder case to the Criminal Investigation Dpartment (CID) or Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) from the local police for its proper investigation.
Advocate Eunus Ali Akond submitted the petition requesting the HC to cancel the remand order against Rifat’s wife Aysha Siddika Minni and her confessional statement in connection with the case.
In the petition, he also prayed to the HC to order the government to form a judicial enquiry committee to probe the incident of killing Sabbir Hossain Nayan alias Nayan Bond, the prime accused of the case, in a gunfight with the law enforcers.
Citing from the petition, Eunus Ali Akond told The Daily Star that the local police are not professional and expert enough to investigate sensitive cases like that of Rifat Sharif’s murder.
CID and PBI are professional departments of the police for investigating such sensitive cases, so the Rifat Sharif murder case needs to be transferred to the CID or PBI, he said.
The lawyer also alleged that male police officials have reportedly taken Aysha Siddika Minni on remand and they forced her to give confessional statement to the magistrate which is illegal.
Besides, the incident of Nayan Bond’s death in a gunfight with the law enforcers is an extrajudicial killing which is contradictory to the constitution, he said, adding that a judicial enquiry should be conducted into the incident of his death.
Advocate Eunus Ali also informed that the HC may hold hearing on the petition on Sunday.
On June 26, Rifat Sharif, a 25-year-old internet service provider, was hacked to death in Barguna city in broad daylight by a group of young men in front of his wife Minni.
In a footage of the incident that went viral on social media, the victim’s wife was seen screaming and trying to save her husband from the assailants in vain.
