‘Jamaat’ man held for threatening intellectuals
Detectives today said they arrested a Jamaat-e-Islami man for threatening eminent personalities including Prof Anisuzzaman and Muntassir Mamoon with death.
The detainee, held from Dhaka’s Tejgaon area last night, issued the threats under the mask of so-called Islamic State, a text message floated to the media said.
Further details in this regard will be made public in a press briefing later today.
Eminent individuals of the country have been receiving life threats for quite some time. Militant outfits blatantly flashed their “hit-list” to the media seeking publicity.
Under pressure from international community to accept presence of Islamic State in Bangladesh, the government repeatedly denied the terrorist outfit’s establishment here.
Yesterday, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said those who claim to be IS are all “fruits of the same tree” – namely Jamaat, Ansarullah Bangla and JMB.
