Technique is not the issue in fielding, says Mahmud
Interim coach Khaled Mahmud talked to the reporters about the woeful fielding of the Bangladesh side after a few players took part in the optional practice session today, a day after their 91-run loss to Sri Lanka in the first ODI.
Tigers had a disastrous fielding display not only in the ODI against Sri Lanka but also in the World Cup. The men in green and red leaked quite a few runs due to sloppiness in the field which cost them the game. However, the interim coach hoped the players would get themselves more in the game as he felt this was completely on the players' attitude.
"Fielding is not technical. We cannot change technique. It is the attitude of the boys in the field. If the boys get in the game more, I think things will be better. When the opponent dominates we get a bit flustered, we have to get out from this. When we dominate we have to pressurize more. If the players are involved more, we can win. I know we misfielded yesterday." said Mahmud.
With one-nil already down in the three match ODI series, the Tigers must learn from their mistakes to come back stronger, if they want to win the series. However, Mahmud was hopeful of bouncing back from this thumping defeat as he believed in the ability of his player.
"We picked the best side for the first match. We can definitely maybe do better, the boys can take more responsibility. We are definitely pressed against the wall. The team has the ability to win, I think we can come back." concluded Mahmud.
