DIG (prisons) of Sylhet range held over ‘graft’
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today detained Partha Gopal Banik, deputy inspector general (prisons) in Sylhet range after it recovered Tk 80 lakh of “graft money” from his residence in Dhaka.
A team of the anti-graft watchdog conducted a drive at the house of DIG (prisons) Partha Gopal Banik at Bhuter Goli in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi this afternoon and recovered the money, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, public relations officer of ACC, told The Daily Star.
Earlier in the day, Partha Gopal appeared before the ACC’s Segunbagicha office as he was summoned today over graft allegations.
Partha Gopal allegedly committed corruption and irregularities while he was serving as DIG (prisons) of Chattogram Range earlier.
ACC Director Mohammad Yousuf quizzed Partha Gopal for six hours starting from 10:00am.
Later, the ACC team launched the drive at his Dhaka residence and detained him after recovering the money, the ACC official added.
