Rape accused killed in Chattogram ‘gunfight’
A rape accused was killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Chattogram’s Patiya upazila early today.
Deceased Arman, 25, was accused in a case filed with Patiya Police Station for the rape of an eighth grader earlier this month, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports quoting Borhan Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.
Based on a tip-off, a team of Rab-7 conducted a raid in Kusumpur union in the upazila, said Mashkur Rahman, assistant director (AD) of Rab-7 media wing.
Sensing presence of law enforcers, Arman and his cohorts opened fire at them forcing them to retaliate, triggering a “gunfight”, the Rab official claimed.
Later, Rab recovered the bullet-hit body of Arman from the spot and handed it over to Patiya police.
A firearm and seven rounds of bullets were also recovered from the spot.
Arman was absconding since the rape victim’s family filed the case against him on July 19, the OC of Patia Police Station said.
The body has been sent to Chittagong Medical College (CMC) for autopsy.
