At least eight people including four women were killed and twenty others injured in a tragic road accident on Thakurgaon-Dhaka highway this morning.

The accident took place when two passenger buses collided head-on near Jagannathpur Balaka Udyan in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila around 8:00am, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.

Station officer of Thakurgaon Fire Service and Civil Defense Mofidar Rahman told The Daily Star that a Thakurgaon-bound bus of Dipjal Enterprise collided head-on with a bus of Nishat Enterprise coming from the opposite direction, leaving five people dead on the spot and around twenty people severely injured.

Fire-fighters, police with the help of local people rescued the injured and took them to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where two others succumbed to their injuries, the official said adding that another injured died while being shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. 

The identities of the victims could not be known immediately, Mofidar Rahman added.
