Muazzin killed, 3 injured in Bogra Shia mosque shooting
At least a devotee was killed and three others were injured as gunmen opened fire entering a Shia mosque in Shibganj upazila of Bogra this evening.
Moyazzem Hossain, 70, Muazzin of Mosjid Al Hussain, succumbed to his bullet wounds at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital this evening, said Dr SM Zahidul Islam of the hospital’s emergency unit.
The other injured are Abu Taher, 70, the mosque’s Imam Shahinur Islam, 35, and Aftab Ali, 42, reports our Bogra correspondent.
The injured were rushed to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex from where Moyazzem and two others: Taher and Shahinur were shifted to SZRMCH at 7:00pm.
Kamruzzaman Mia, inspector (investigation) of Shibganj Police Station, said Moyazzem sustained head injuries in the shooting.
Police said unidentified miscreants entered the mosque in Horipur area and opened fire indiscriminately on the devotees soon after the Maghrib prayer, Kamruzzaman added.
The body was sent to SZMCH morgue for autopsy, police said.
According to the emergency unit doctor, Taher's condition is also critical.
“We can say if there is a link with the attack on the Shia Mosque after further investigation”, said Md Asaduzzaman, superintended police (SP) in Bogra.
