Separate road crashes kill 4 in Bogura
Four people were killed in two separate road accidents in Bogura’s Sherpur upazila today.
The deceased have been identified as Kamal Hossain, 33, Md Rifat, 20, Hafizul Islam, 38, and Amena Begum, 50, our Bogura correspondent reports quoting police sources.
A Rangpur-bound truck carrying iron-rods had a head-on collision with a banana-laden truck coming from the opposite direction on Dhaka-Rangpur highway in front of Sherpur Traffic Police Outpost around 4:30 am, said Ratan Hossain, station officer of the Sherpur Fire service and Civil defense.
At the same time, a covered van also hit the iron-laden truck from behind, said the fire service official.
Driver and helper of the Banana-laden truck -- Kamal and Rifat -- died on the spot, said Kazal Kumar Nandi, sub-inspector (SI) of Kunderhat highway outpost.
Hafizul, driver of the iron-rod-laden truck, was also pronounced dead by the doctors after he was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, the SI added.
In another incident, Amena was hit by a Rangpur-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus on the Dhaka- Rangpur highway in Haripur area when she was crossing road around 7.30am, Ratan Hossain, station officer of the Sherpur Fire service and Civil defense said.
She died on the spot, said Humayan Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of the Sherpur Police Station.
However, the driver along with the vehicle managed to flee the scene, the OC added.
