Nazim, a cattle trader, used to bring cattle from India and had a business deal with Indian border cattle traders, Akul Uddin, uncle of the victim, told our correspondent.

Subedar Rezul Karim, commander of 58 Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) outpost, told that a group of Bangladeshi people crossed the border through the pillar no-74 of Rajapur around 3:30am.

A BSF team from Amtala camp under Murshidabad district chased them and fired at Rajapur border point in Jibannagar upazila, he said.

Najim sustained bullets and died on the spot while the others managed to flee the area, the BGB official said.

Later, the BSF members took away the body into the Indian territory.

Quamrul Hasan, director of BGB Battalion-6, said they sent a letter to BSF asking flag-meeting in this regard, but yet to get any response from the Indian side.
