‘Do I now explain to them how to play Tests?’

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan questioned the team's planning for the one-off Test against Afghanistan which the Tigers were almost certain to lose after losing six wickets for 136 runs on day four in their chase of 398.

"Do I explain to them how to play Tests?" the BCB president asked reporters today. "How they prepared themselves, the way they planned, there must have been something wrong there," he added.

Bangladesh went without a pacer much in the manner they have done in recent Tests at home. BCB president said that they were used to a different kind of thinking after playing in sporting wickets at the World Cup and reiterated that Tigers did a U-turn.

"First thing is that where are the pacers? We played in sporting wickets at the World Cup. Why the reversal in plans? I have to know who came up with these plans first.

"They [Afghanistan] have the best spinners. So we wanted to contest them with spin so the one person who had the courage to do that, took that decision. I don't know if it might be a case of overconfidence. I thought we were going to play on a sporting wicket," he said.

He was disappointed that Bangladesh did not score big runs in a pitch where Afghanistan batsmen scored runs.

"We were under a particular strategy before Steve Rhodes came. It was known that we will play against teams from the subcontinent in one kind of wicket while a different kind against the rest. I think everyone has a lot to learn from this. I thought the likes of Mushfiqur, Shakib, Riyad and Mominul will score tons. No reason not to since their batsmen did," he vented.
