Khalid on 7-day remand
Jubo League Dhaka South Organising Secretary Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan has been remanded for seven days in two separate cases filed for running a casino in Fakirerpool.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Akter granted four-day remand for Khalid in a case filed under Firearms Act while the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman put him on a three-day remand in another case filed under Narcotics Control Act.
Police produced Khalid, president of Youngmen’s Football Club, before the courts at 8:30pm seeking seven-day remand in each case, reports our court correspondent.
A total of four cases were filed against Khalid, who was arrested yesterday from his Gulshan residence, in the wake of the crackdown at a casino in the football club.
Three of the cases were filed with Gulshan Police Station while another with Motijheel Police Station, Mizanur Rahman, senior assistant director (legal and media wing) of Rab, told The Daily Star.
The cases were filed under the Firearms Act, the Narcotics Control Act and Money Laundering Act.
Besides, the Rab filed a case against Khalid with Motijheel Police Station under The Narcotics Control Act, said Mizanur Rahman.
Khalid’s arrest came after a Rab mobile court detained and sentenced 142 people raiding the “casino” in Fakirerpool Youngmen’s Club and seized some apparently blackjack tables, slot machines, Tk 24.29 lakh in cash, yaba pills, and some bottles of liquor around 4:30 pm.
The elite force also raided at least five clubs in the city yesterday and detained and sentenced 182 people in connection with running “casinos”, gambling, and drug abuse, and sealed off at least two clubs.
Meanwhile, another case was filed against three persons of Wanderers Club with Motijheel Police Station under The Narcotics Control Act, 2018.
