‘Don’t allow Jamaat men to run polls’

Workers Party urges EC

The Workers Party of Bangladesh today urged the Election Commission not to allow any Jamaat-e-Islami activists to take part in the municipality election under the banner of BNP-led 20-party alliance.

Fazle Hossain Badsha, general secretary of the party, said it after a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner Rakibuddin Ahmad at the EC’s office in the capital.

Badsha, who led a delegation during the 45-minute meeting with the CEC, came up with the request citing that the High Court on August 1, 2013 declared illegal the party’s registration with the Election Commission.

The leader also urged the commission to defer the municipality polls as they need more time to take preparation.
